Police warn of possible scam in Medina

MEDINA -- Thousands of residents came home Monday evening to find questionable business flyers in their newspaper delivery boxes, prompting police to warn of a possible scam.
The flyers -- printed on 4 1/2 -by-11 orange paper -- promote a business that promise to paint address numbers on curbs in front of homes. The flyer directs residents who want the service to leave a $10-to-$20 payment on the front porch.
However, the flyer does not list any business or contact information, Police Chief Dennis Hanwell said. The flyer also asks check-writers to make checks payable to "Robert Metz," an individual whom police could not locate Tuesday, Hanwell said.

Robert Metz... I've met a Robert Metz... He was that man on the phone who swindled me out of forty bucks for a Police Department Teddy Bear... Or was he that dude who knocked on my door and barged his way into my apartment, refusing to leave until I purchased a two year subscription to Islands... That I never received. Perhaps he was the real Keyser Soze?... Who knows.

All we do know is that he has a penchant for orange letterhead... and thinks some Rust-O-Leum paint sprayed on a stencil is worth $20.00.
