The Beach does not like the White Whale

Apparently Myrtle Beach is beginning to crack down on people who park for free... or at least park and don't pay.

For many years, Myrtle Beach tourists and locals enjoyed the freedom of parking their vehicles at the beach from north to south end of the beaches without any parking fees. Well, those days are now gone. There are new laws that will make anyone that has outstanding fees of $100 or more in violation parking tickets will get a boot.

The former punishment for not paying any fines was towing, and yes the towing to a municipal was more costly than a few $20 tickets, so in actually you will pay less for repeated violations but in the long run remember to feed the parking meter.

But there's one problem here....Myrtle Beach doesn't own a boot and certainly does not chase after their White Whales.

And if you chase the link you will, of course be required to pay for an article in Feb. of 2007 that states in a very Andy Griffith sort of matter of fact way that the city of Myrtle Beach does not own a boot, does not boot cars, and really makes no effort to pursue those with unpaid parking tickets.

Yet we now have this glorious new idea that is the nascent beginnings of a new tax to us Beach living locals.

As early as this weekend, 18,000 Myrtle Beach residents will get an offer that means they don't have to feed the city's parking meters.
The city plans to reinstall parking meters March 15 and wants to make sure residents don't have to worry about where to park this summer.
So it's sending out about 18,000 letters to people, offering parking decals.
This is the second year the city has given a break to such residents, although not everyone takes the city up on the offer.

There will be one postcard for each vehicle a resident owns, and each person will be mailed a decal for each returned postcard.

So... Follow me for a moment... If a city that blatantly states that they do not have a boot yet threatens a boot, claims in a public newspaper forum that they do not pursue individuals with overdue parking fines... What incentive is there for anyone at all to even accept a parking decal that outside of a good night's sleep... or at least a relaxing shit... is worthless.

In five years there will be a fee for above referenced decals.
